Carpet Weaving Project (UN-HABITAT)

In 2008, the Services of Women Relieve Center – Afghanistan (SWRCA), in partnership with UN-HABITAT, implemented a Carpet Weaving Project in Farah Center. The project aimed to empower women-headed households by providing vocational skills, enhancing income generation, and promoting cultural heritage preservation.

Objectives

  • To train women-headed households in carpet weaving techniques and hygiene practices.

  • To increase household income through the production and sale of high-quality carpets.

  • To strengthen women’s financial independence, cultural engagement, and participation in community life.

Activities

  • Skills Training: Provided training to female-headed households in carpet weaving and hygiene practices.

  • Production Support: Beneficiaries received guidance and support to create marketable carpets.

  • Community Engagement: Encouraged women’s active involvement in income-generating activities and local cultural initiatives.

Achievements

  • Beneficiaries gained practical carpet weaving skills and improved production quality.
