NDP Food & Cash Distribution – Flood Affected Project (WFP)

In 2019, the Services of Women Relieve Center for Afghanistan (SWRCA), with support from the World Food Programme (WFP), implemented the NDP Food & Cash Distribution Project in Farah Center. The initiative was designed to provide immediate humanitarian relief to families affected by severe flooding, addressing urgent food insecurity and household financial needs.

The project recognized that natural disasters not only disrupt livelihoods but also threaten nutrition, well-being, and long-term community resilience. By combining food aid with cash support, the initiative provided comprehensive assistance to vulnerable households while supporting local markets.

Objectives

  • To provide immediate food assistance to flood-affected families.

  • To deliver cash support to meet household needs and restore financial stability.

  • To strengthen community resilience by reducing vulnerability to disasters.

  • To ensure equitable and efficient distribution to the most affected households.

Activities

  • Distributed 835 metric tons of food to 7,362 vulnerable families, including wheat, oil, and other essential commodities.

  • Provided 43,578,000 AFN in cash support to assist households with urgent financial needs.

  • Coordinated with local authorities and community representatives to ensure fair and transparent distribution.

  • Monitored distribution activities to track coverage, address challenges, and ensure beneficiary satisfaction.

  • Collected feedback from households to improve program delivery and accountability.

Achievements

  • Successfully reached 7,362 flood-affected families with both food and cash assistance.

  • Improved household nutrition and reduced immediate hunger.

  • Provided financial resources to meet urgent needs, including shelter, clothing, and health expenses.

  • Strengthened trust between communities, local authorities, and humanitarian actors.

  • Enhanced local market activity by injecting cash into the community economy.

Impact

The project significantly improved the well-being and resilience of vulnerable households in Farah Center. By addressing both food and financial needs, SWRCA helped families recover more quickly from flood-related losses and strengthened their capacity to withstand future shocks.

The combination of immediate relief and targeted cash support promoted sustainable recovery, reduced vulnerability, and enhanced household and community resilience, demonstrating SWRCA’s commitment to effective humanitarian response.
