SSUP/CBT Winterization Project (WFP)

From November 2020 to March 2021, the Services of Women Relieve Center – Afghanistan (SWRCA) partnered with the World Food Programme (WFP) to implement the Seasonal Support/Conditional Based Transfer (SSUP/CBT) Winterization Project in Farah Center and surrounding villages. The initiative aimed to protect vulnerable families from the harsh effects of winter by providing essential financial support to cover food, shelter, and other urgent needs.

Objectives

  • To provide emergency financial assistance to vulnerable families during the winter season.

  • To ensure access to food, shelter, and basic necessities in order to reduce malnutrition and health risks.

  • To strengthen household resilience against seasonal shocks.

Activities

  • Beneficiary Targeting: SWRCA identified 800 vulnerable households through clear and accountable selection processes.

  • Cash Transfers: A total of 96,000,000 Afghanis was distributed to enable families to purchase food, fuel, clothing, and shelter materials.

  • Awareness & Guidance: Beneficiaries were informed about safe cash usage and available complaint mechanisms to ensure transparency.

Achievements

  • 800 families received life-saving financial assistance during one of the harshest winter periods.

  • Cash transfers improved access to food and shelter while giving households flexibility to address their specific needs.

  • Reduced the prevalence of malnutrition and improved family well-being across targeted communities.

Impact

The project helped protect the most vulnerable households from the immediate risks of winter, including food shortages and exposure to cold weather. By ensuring families could secure both nutrition and shelter, the initiative strengthened community resilience, safeguarded dignity, and reduced negative coping mechanisms.

SWRCA’s collaboration with WFP in this effort reflects its commitment to addressing seasonal vulnerabilities and providing timely, life-saving assistance to communities in need across Afghanistan.
