On February 15, 2004, the Services of Women Relieve Center – Afghanistan (SWRCA), with funding from UNHCR, implemented a Winter Assistance Project to support the most vulnerable families during the harsh winter season in Farah Province. The initiative focused on providing essential winter supplies to ensure families could stay warm and protected.

Objectives

  • To provide life-saving winter materials to vulnerable households.

  • To reduce hardships and health risks associated with extreme cold weather.

  • To support community resilience by addressing basic needs during the winter season.

Activities

  • Beneficiary Targeting: SWRCA identified 720 vulnerable families across Farah Province, including:

    • 320 families from Farah Center

    • 100 families from Khak-e-Safed District

    • 100 families from Lash-e-Jowain District

    • 200 families from Pusht-e-Rod District

  • Distribution of Winter Materials: Each family received a package containing two quilts, two jackets, one ax, and one sickle, distributed free of charge.

  • Community Engagement: Beneficiaries were informed about the distribution process and schedules to ensure transparency and accountability.

Achievements

  • Successfully provided winter assistance to 720 families, ensuring they had adequate protection against the cold.

  • Enhanced household capacity to cope with winter hardships through the provision of essential supplies.

  • Strengthened community trust and engagement through transparent and equitable distribution.
